Sander at LBPP-LIA Buahbatu, Bandung, Indonesia
Sander is a 21-year-old Dutch man who came to our English institute, LBPP-LIA Buah batu in Bandung - Indonesia, in October 2007 through an internship program organized by AIESEC-UNPAD. He was not the first foreign (non-Indonesian) teacher teaching at our institute but he was the first one to help us for four months (that's the longest term of service a foreigner has done so far in LBPP-LIA Buahbatu).
Our first impression about him was that he was tall (188 cm) - as a matter of fact very tall compared to most Indonesians -, slim (he was only 74 kg), handsome, quiet, shy, very formal and nice. During his stay for the internship he could adapt himself very well and most students who were between 8 and 40 years old with the majority of the teenagers loved him and adored him so much that in no time he turned into a celebrity with many students wanting to take pictures with him. He also won the hearts of all of the teachers as he was friendly, kind and helpful. During his stay in Indonesia, He could enjoy himself and spent some time to visit tourism resorts like Lembang, Ciwidey and some other places around Bandung and the city of Yogyakarta in Central Java. Last Saturday, March 1st 2008, our English Institute, LBPP-LIA Buahbatu Bandung, held a farewel party for Sander since his contract was over and he had to go back to his country – the Netherlands – as he was planning to start his Master Degree program in Utrecht in the middle of this year. This is my own opinion (as one of the teachers and one of the Academic Supervisors) about Sander.
My other colleagues might have different opinion or different preference in describing Sander or other things.
I did not and did not pretend to represent anyone or any institution whatsoever.
